SCHUYLKILL PRISON PROGRAM

From January of 1999 until February of 2002, the second Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday during the day was reserved for our volunteers to take the workshop into the Schuylkill County Prison. This was done at the plea of Warden Gerald Britton. He saw the need for something to be done on the women's unit there and felt that Choices might be just the answer. The program did, indeed make a huge difference with the female population. several of the residents trained to become facilitators and further contributed to the program by writing new exercises for the workshops. These exercises are used with great regularity currently.

Unfortunately, we no longer have trained and willing community facilitators to continue taking the program into this particular facility. Shortly before our facilitators resigned, there was talk of extending the program to the men's housing units. We are looking for additional volunteers to be trained in this area and once again be able to take the program back into the facility for both the men and the women.
